Who are we? Well, that’s a great question! We are Monty (John Montague Photography) and Me (Vicki Montague). We are a married couple mixing part-time work with travel. Whenever the budget and time allow, we like to fly the coup and head to unknown shores. We started this blog to record where we go and what we do and to share our experiences with others. We hope you find something of interest that will help you too.

We’re both Australian born and bred. Monty is from ‘wine and roses’ country down south; I am from the north where the sun always shines. My first overseas trip was to the United Kingdom via glorious Vienna. I was 16 years old. This girl from ‘the colonies’ was boggle-eyed and filled with the wonder of it all. Australia was so different back then. No quick direct phone calls to the relatives in London, my dad would place a trunk call which had to go through the exchange.  No internet for immediate access to the world. No mobile phones. No Google Earth to navigate the globe from the comfort of your lounge chair.

University studies (journalism and public relations), work, and our wonderful three children meant overseas travel was placed in a holding pattern until 2002 when we visited Stockholm to catch up with old friends. To this day, Monty and I continue to travel both locally and overseas.

When we’re not boarding planes, trains and automobiles, one of my great loves is searching for new ports of call. Monty’s passion is photography.

In all honesty, I get as much pleasure researching new destinations as I do actually experiencing them. I am a great believer in ‘Ikigai’ – the Japanese belief that everyone “has a reason to jump out bed each morning”. I love always being busy doing ‘stuff’. Monty loves viewing the world through his camera lens. To this day, we are fortunate to be able to continue fulfilling our dream to travel.
